Dr. Jonathon Mitchell-Smith

Managing Director, and co-founder

Having spent over 10 years in industry leading technical projects across a variety of engineering disciplines although mainly focused in motorsport, Jonathon entered academia retraining through a ND engineering (Hull College), MEng Electro-mechanical Design Engineering (Hons, University of Nottingham), followed by a PhD in Advanced manufacturing (Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Group, University of Nottingham).

Jonathon developed the initial fundamental research platform that underpins TextureJet’s technology as part of his undergraduate studies. Employed by the University of Nottingham (2015) throughout his PhD as lead researcher developing this technology, Jonathon has achieved extensive high profile academic output and numerous prizes.

This has included secondment to Innovate UK for 6 months as part of the Innovation to Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) program, which lead to the formation of TextureJet as a spin-out of the University of Nottingham. As an active researcher in engineering machine design, Jonathon has developed a proven track record of initiating and executing research collaboration across some of the world’s leading Universities and UK OEM’s.

Jonathon’s experience gained in industry before entering academia of leading large teams in technically complex challenges, often in high-pressure environments and the knowledge gained throughout his academic experience allows Jonathon a unique skill set to deliver in his role within TextureJet.
